Clubbing, hiking and exploring Vienna
It took me two weeks to process our weekend spent in Vienna. Why? Because this city is so overwhelming, that it takes time to grasp everything we’ve seen and experienced there.
One weekend in Vienna. Doesn’t sound that much. However, we accepted the challenge and tried to get the most out of our trip. So, we managed to party at the event called Zuckerwatt w/ Boris Brejcha held at Grelle Forelle and to get an impression of Vienna by night, to visit the center of the city by day, and to have a really nice hike outside Vienna, enjoying the beautiful nature and the warm autumn weather.
Thus, on Friday evening we went to Mel’s Craft Beer — I really recommend this place, especially if you are a beer lover. This pub has a large variety of beers you can try, the service is amazing, and the place is really cozy and close to the center of the city.
We enjoyed Friday evening in this place, drinking beers, having good and inspiring conversations and getting into the party mood because later in the night we had scheduled Boris Brejcha’s concert. After the beer tasting we decided to walk along the Danube river towards the club, so we get to see the not so touristic streets of Vienna too.
The city seems calm and safe during the night, considering its size and the number of different kind of tourists visiting it. The event we attended was wilder than any party I ever attended. The atmosphere was intense and in perfect harmony with the music, the event and the location. One detail that I have to mention is that Uber is a very affordable and a comfortable option in Vienna for a group of people (we were 4).
On Saturday, we really needed a good coffee, and my cousin’s boyfriend took care of that because he is making the best coffee in the world. So, thank you Floor for fueling us with energy so we could go on exploring the city :). We enjoyed our breakfast and we went to visit Vienna’s center by day.
October perfectly complements Austria capital’s streets with its warm and beautiful colors, comfortable temperatures and refreshing winds. If I would need to describe this city using only one word, that word would definitely be overwhelming.
Vienna is uncomfortably huge — everything is at least 40 minutes away. The buildings are more than impressive (but you all know that already). I found Vienna alive, restless, with so many humans crossing its streets. This city never gets the chance to slow down, nor to relax.
Vienna is a stunning city, so there is very much movement going on. The streets are loaded with massive buildings, big distances, and people. In order to grasp everything we’ve seen and to calm down our minds, we went to my cousin Melinda’s home and we enjoyed a bottle of good wine and endless, empowering conversations about cities, people, life, relationships, discoveries, and curiosities.
In order to get the full Vienna experience, we spent our Sunday afternoon just outside the city and it was so surprising to discover such wild nature only 30 minutes from the center of the city.
Here we found impressive landscapes covered in so much green… and yellow… and red… and other autumnal colors. Being quite uphill, we could see the whole city from above, like it would be a completely separate world. Surrounded by nature, the whistles of the birds, and in complete peace, we were looking at busy Vienna surprised by this perfect balance between civilization and wildness.
Partying in Vienna, walking around and discovering its surroundings was definitely a great experience. The fact that it’s such a touristic city and we all know already the big objectives that you must visit when traveling to Vienna, I gave myself some time to explore the ‘hidden’ corners of this city and I have to admit that everything about the capital of Austria is just breathtaking.
Sunday afternoon we left this beautiful capital and went back to our normal lives. After these three days which felt like a few weeks considering how intense we lived the days and nights here, we arrived home slightly different. Every trip, every new place makes some irreversible changes in me (I prefer to say me because I cannot speak on behalf of the whole group).
I feel more open, more informed, more inspired and energized to make a change in good, to bring something new home, to include what I’ve learned from a different culture in my daily routine. Once, one of my teachers told me something that I agree with and I’ll never forget: visiting a new country is equivalent to reading a shelf of books because of all the knowledge you are going home with.
